Variety is reporting that Blake Lively of "Gossip Girl" and various men's magazine fame has signed on to play the female lead in the upcoming "Green Lantern" flick. This will be the first foray into the world of mega budget comic book movies for Lively whose biggest role prior to this was in those "Traveling Pants" movies.
"Lantern" will begin production in March and will be staring Ryan Reynolds (who at this point probably has trouble remembering which tights to wear to the set since he is also staring in "Deadpool") as the titular Lantern and alter ego, Hal Jordan. While it doesn't specifically say who she will be playing, I assume it would be that of Hal Jordan's love interest Carol Ferris. If you ask me, the real ace in the hole for "Lantern" may be director Martin Campbell whose last film was the amazing Bond reboot "Casino Royale" (recently named one of my Top 30 Films of the 2000s.)
"Green Lantern" is currently scheduled to be released on July 17, 2011.
