The 2008 American Music Awards were held last night in Los Angeles. The big winner was Chris Brown with 3 awards. Other notable winners were Kanye West, Alicia Keys, and Rihanna. Performers included Miley Cyrus, Ne-Yo, Beyonce, New Kids on the Block, and Christina Aguilera.

Less than three months after dropping Mixtape Messiah 4, Houston rapper Chamillionaire released Mixtape Messiah 5 yesterday. If you live in Texas, make sure you pick up a copy. There is no word yet on if there will be a national release in retail stores.

The following is a press release from Red about their new album, Innocence & Instinct.

GRAMMY-nominated modern rock band Red is preparing to release its second CD, INNOCENCE & INSTINCT, on February 10, 2009, via Essential Records. The disc features 10 songs, including its first single “Fight Inside.” The band will simultaneously release a Deluxe Edition of INNOCENCE & INSTINCT featuring four bonus tracks, the “Death of Me” music video, a making of documentary and more.

Island Def Jam Music Group executive vice president Shakir Stewart was found dead in his Marietta, GA home on Saturday.

Stewart was an influential part of the music industry, having signed Beyonce to Hitco Music Publishing and Young Jeezy and Rick Ross to Def Jam. He had only been in his EVP position at Def Jam since June, when he replaced Jay-Z.
Stewart died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 34.
