An Ode to Jack Bauer

24 season 7 trailer

Ok, not so much an ode, but a plea. A moment of begging if you will.

Please stop sucking.

Ok, I know you have been through a lot. I mean any normal man would have gone completely nuts and wiped out all of CTU and then preceded to shoot themselves in the face. But you aren’t just any normal man. You are Jack Bauer, and that’s why we love you.

How do you top shooting ex-President Palmer in the neck, subsequently killing him? How do you top the chase and eventual show down between freaking Robocop and Jack Bauer? The writers thought they had it. They thought that the nuke could pull it all in - give us something new to fear and pray to the gods that mighty Jack will save us all once again - but I guess they underestimated how long our attention spans really are. Somewhere between Jacks weird faced nephew and and the awkward killing of Curtis, (Black Jack as you may want to call him) the show seemed to jump the shark. The show deviated from its normal peaks and valleys (we will ignore season 5’s non stop I think I am having a freaking heart attack suspense) and seemed to go with a more… flat lined approach. Even the Wayne Palmer story arc was a waste. I mean how predictable can you get? I bet no one saw the setup of a known terrorist in order to pass blame.

This season we see the return of the dead. Apparently Tony Almeada faked his death - and has now become EVIL TONY! With a page out of Die Hard 4, we have some cyber terrorism going on - and its up to Jack and Chloe to stop it.

Please hold as I recover from my dizzy head.

Ok. The writers claim they are bringing the good ole days back to ‘24′ - I say the proof is in the pudding. Will I be there for the premier? You betcha, but I’ll be damned if I’ll take another 6 or 7 seasons of last year. Get it together people, or next thing you know we are going to see Jack in a casket - 3 year deal or not.

The WGA strike could give us 24 fans some trouble, as it could mean delays for the season. Maureen Ryan recently spoke to FOX and 24 executive producer David Fury, about the likelihood of 24 being delayed if a strike occurs. FOX is playing it safe, simply saying that, “We’re hoping that all parties can come to an agreement and a strike can be averted. However, in the event one does occur, we’re prepared.”

David Fury gave a little more detail. His comments to Ryan are below,

Fury said that if the writers work past their contract date, as some think might happen if progress is made in negotiations, Jack Bauer may indeed return in January. “As of right now, I think Fox will premiere ‘24’ as scheduled,” Fury said, but he noted that “it really depends on if and when the writers are called to walk out. If the strike does hit on Nov. 1, it certainly makes sense for Fox to delay the start, even if the lack of new programming hurts their bottom line.”

The last writers strike occurred in 1988 and lasted 5 months.

Check out the trailer for season 7 after the jump.

Plot: With CTU dismantled, the show’s setting moves to Washington, DC, where Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) faces trial for his actions in the pursuit of justice. Bauer’s day gets off to a shocking start when former colleague Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), last seen in “Day 5,” returns after being left for dead by a terrorist conspirator in CTU’s infirmary. Although CTU is no longer, Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and Bill Buchanan (James Morrison) are back for another momentous day of shocking events.

Cast: Cherry Jones as President Allison Taylor and Janeane Garofalo as FBI Agent Janis Gold. Colm Feore will play First Gentleman Henry Taylor and Bob Gunton is White House Chief of Staff Ethan Kanin. FBI Agents assigned to the team investigating the crisis befalling Bauer include Garofalo’s Agent Gold in addition to Annie Wersching as Agent Renee Walker, Jeffrey Nordling as Agent Larry Moss and Rhys Coiro as Agent Sean Hillinger. John Billingsley portrays security specialist Michael Latham.
