10 New Year’s Resolutions to Better Yourself
2021 has officially rounded the corner, and it’s time for 10 New Year’s resolutions to better yourself! This is the year we’ve all been anticipating, because it brings about hope for a more peaceful future. With 2021, we hope for all the resolutions possible to our current problems.
Really, 2021 is the band-aid.
It’s the bow on top.
2021 is the loaf of bread that half of the world finally learned to bake on their own. Warm and satisfying.
This puts a lot of weight on 2021, I know. In the meantime, 2021 is possibly the best year to bring about our best resolutions. So, here are ten resolutions to be excited about for the new year:
TIP 1: Read More
This is always number one on my list! It’s easy and manageable. Most importantly, the most attainable. Reading engages our minds in so many ways. A good book will always teach you a lesson and make you think.
With the amount of time on our hands, there’s no reason we can’t get some more reading done. What’s great about having reading as a resolution, is that you can set a simple schedule, and every day you get some reading done, you’re rewarded with a feeling of accomplishment! And then your brain provides you with extra motivation to do even more in a day.
TIP 2: Sleep 8 Hours
This one shouldn’t be surprising (I hope)! It’s so hard to get our eight hours in successfully, but with some practice, this one will become a very satisfying resolution.
“Practice?” you ask, dumbfounded. Yes, practice!
Once you finally get your well-deserved eight hours a night, you’ll never want to go back to pulling your all-nighters.
TIP 3: Meditate
Anxiety-ridden? Can’t relax? Well, it’s proven that meditation does just the opposite of that. We all know how hard it is to sit still in our technological world, but with enough practice, meditation can become second nature.

TIP 4: Take Up a Hobby
Hobbies are great. This gives you the opportunity to meet new people, to develop a new skill (maybe even a profitable one), and to explore another side of yourself! Explore painting, running, basketball, or crocheting, and find something that you truly enjoy, and maybe it’ll become routine.
And that leads me to our next resolution:
TIP 5: Join a Facebook Group
While some of us need to steer away from overusing social media, your apps have other uses than checking in on all your friends’ lives at once. Facebook has thousands of groups, all with different topics and focuses. If that’s not your cup of tea, there are various groups that surround running, careers, and more.
TIP 6: Volunteer
If you already volunteer, volunteer more. This is such a great resolution! As you aim to improve the quality of your life, you are also improving the lives of others. With so many people in need, even just an hour a week makes a significant difference.
TIP 7: Improve Health and Fitness
Now, I’m not going to tell you to run a 5K, but based on where you are in your health journey, maybe you can consider it.
Just like reading, after finishing a workout and getting your body moving, you’re rewarded with a sense of accomplishment! Finding small ways to improve health and fitness is always beneficial when done in small steps or intervals. Choose to drink a glass of water a day or walk to your local grocery store instead of driving.
TIP 8: Play More
No matter what your age is, society pushes us to grow up. As we age, we become “wiser and smarter”. They’re not wrong, but it’s always a great idea to introduce more “play” into your life as well. Go out and keep experiencing new things. Play with your kids or grandkids, little cousins, etc. Engage in conversations about your favorite things with your favorite people. Reflect on the present, past, and future in awe and in excitement!
TIP 9: Support Local Businesses
Supporting local businesses has to be the best feeling in the world. All goods and services are unique and are generated through hard work. Make a business owner happy and aid your local economy and feel good about it.
So instead of visiting big-box stores like Home Depot and Lowes, why not show your local flooring store some love? We know they’ll be grateful for your support!
TIP 10: Call Your Mom
Yes, really. If you’re fortunate to be able to call your mom, do it! Or your dad. Or that friend you haven’t checked up on for a bit. Really, just call! Strengthen and deepen your relationships this year. If we’ve learned anything this year, it’s that life is unpredictable, and time is fleeting (did 2020 even really happen?), and we should continue to make the most of it.
So pick up the phone and let your loved ones know how much you love them. This resolution is guaranteed to put a smile on both of your faces. It just feels good to connect.
